Do unto others...

"Whenever I see an old lady slip and fall on a wet sidewalk, my first instinct is to laugh. But then I think, what if I was an ant, and she fell on me. Then it wouldn't seem quite so funny."
---Jack Handy

This quote cracked me up. I don't know if it is just me, but sometimes I feel like people at BYU tend to act overly concerned when someone falls or does something stupid. Let's be honest, when someone slips and falls, or runs into a pole, or trips up the stairs, I laugh..and laugh hard. Some might consider this inconsiderate or rude, but do unto others as you would have them do unto you right? And if I ran into a pole, I would hope that someone could appreciate the moment for what it really is....freakin' hilarious! I find that people asking "oh my goodness, are you ok?" over and over again only makes the person who fell/tripped/hit their head feel worse, when I am sure that wasn't their initial goal. That is not to say, that you shouldn't inquire as to their status, because they could be seriously hurt (in which case you might feel bad about laughing) but it is ok to crack a smile and you will most likely find that it lightens the situation. So next time I run into a door that says pull, please, for my sake, laugh your head off. It will make me feel better.

OK Taniel. I loved this post! I could just hear your voice as I was reading it, and I was laughing. Thank you. Maybe others don't find the humor in accidents and injury, but believe me, I still laugh when I think about the time you got stung by a bee on the end of your nose, when Erica ran into a tree on her bike, and when Brad fell off the boat into the water right before he proposed to Erica. Funny times! They need to happen more often--thanks for doing your share!
